Fall, Night Sky
Look up, see those leaves
fingertips
reaching out
beckoning the night sky
watch
the velvet cloak
dropping
over the seekers
fall into me
night sky
darken into shadows
the waywardness of the day
make me quiet
the grasshopper poses
as a still green statue
while the stick insect sinks
under the weight
of its thoughts fall into them
night sky
darken them into
discarded leaves by the doormat
no movement
other than the door opening
to let lovers in
I am a wisp of smoke
from my cigarette
drifting in the still air
away
away from my body
into the leaves
seeking the night sky.
